We are immensely grateful to our community of Supporters, whose vital contributions enable us to offer an extraordinary and life-changing experience for brilliant young musicians from across the world. The 2025 competition attracted over 170 entries with 60 competitors chosen to perform live before an audience of hundreds in person and over ½ million online. Over 95 events took place during the competition week, including master classes, workshops and ensemble sessions for all ages and levels, world-class concerts, boutique luthier and instrument tasting sessions, talks, competition rounds, sessions for teachers, amateurs, world premieres and opportunities for hundreds of gifted young musicians to learn from some of the worlds finest players.
In addition to the triennial event we run an annual series of events and outreach initiatives including Viola Days in different venues across the country targeted at amateurs, schools and universities; a specialist viola and also adult chamber music course is planned and activities highlighting the talents of Competition participants, all the while promoting the viola’s significance in classical music.
Your support inspires us, sustains us, and helps us to realise our commitment to providing innovative and life-changing opportunities for young and aspiring musicians.
“The Tertis and Aronowitz Competitions transform the career trajectories and futures of brilliant young musicians across the world. These triennial competitions and festival. Together with our other world-class events, celebrate two legendary British champions of the instrument and spotlight the viola’s position at the very heart of musical performance”

Tertis Aronowitz Viola Competition (TAVC) is the only ongoing international viola event in the UK, an event crafted specifically to perpetuate and elevate recognition of an instrument that is integral to the future of classical music. One that is often overlooked by a tradition that has historically placed the violin and cello in a loftier position. Unless the future of the viola is innovatively and methodically curated the time will come when our symphony orchestras and chamber music groups will simply not have the requisite quantity or quality of violists. This future necessarily includes luthiers, teachers, composers, researchers and performers. Tertis Aronowitz exists solely to uphold and further the cause of the viola and all of its protagonists.
TAVC is also the only registered charity created to support the viola in this way.
As a Patron, your support helps to underpin all areas of our artistic and educational programme, enabling us to provide innovative and life-changing opportunities to young musicians. In return, you will become part of a vibrant community right at the heart of our work with invitations to exclusive Patron events and personal contact with our prize winners and competitors.
